From model to red-carpet designer

As being a creative director and co-creator of Marchesa, a hot label that quickly became very popular on red carpets, it's difficult to believe there's a life more fabulous than Georgina Chapman's at present.

British born Georgina and Keren Craig met at Chelsea College of Art and Design in London. Georgina, after graduation of the Wimbledon School of Art, began her career as a costume designer. Her draping and design expertise paired with Keren’s textile creations resulted in a business partnership and the establishment of Marchesa in 2004.

The label was named after a legendary European style icon of the early 20th century and also Chapman's main style inspiration - Marchesa Luisa Casati. The eccentric Italian aristocrat, known for walking the streets of Venice naked beneath her furs, with her pair of pet cheetahs on diamond leashes.

Chapman creates dreamy, fantasy-driven dresses, inspired by vintage and Asian influences. The beautifully crafted designs fuse high fashion with an eclectic aesthetic - many feature built-in corsets, hand-placed feathers or Grecian draping.

When it comes to describing Georgina Chapman's own style, she says "I love vintage and prints, I look for anything that's unusual, that I feel like I'm never going to see again". She also admits her tendency to overdress at night. "I'm like a magpie: I love anything that sparkle". However Chapman's daytime wardrobe is slightly more moderate. "I like to wear a vintage dress with a Topshop biker jacket and high-heel boots. Or a pair of jeans with a Pucci blouse, or a Chanel jacket and a T-shirt".

Well, one thing is sure - she has a great taste and sense of style - I adore her look and so Marchesa' dresses.
